JERUSALEM, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Ariel Beit-Halahmy has been appointed head coach of Israel's men's national basketball team, the Israeli Basketball Association (IBBA) announced on Friday.
Beit-Halahmy, 57, has coached in the Israeli top league since 1999. He now coaches Hapoel Gilboa Galil, which is currently in the 12th and last place in the Israeli Super League.
His best achievements are leading Israel to two consecutive gold medals at the FIBA U20 European Championship in 2018 and 2019.
Beit-Halahmy replaces Guy Goodes, who failed to lead Israel to the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup final tournament that will be held in Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan in August and September.
Sharon Drucker, who currently coaches the Israeli club Hapoel Haifa and the women's national team, was appointed assistant coach of the men's national team.
The first mission of the new coaching staff will be the FIBA Olympic pre-qualifying tournament in August.
