JERUSALEM, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian on Wednesday after he attempted to stab them at a military post in the occupied West Bank, the military said.
The Palestinian suspect "attempted to carry out a stabbing attack" on a road outside Kdumim, an Israeli settlement west of Nablus city, said a military statement.
"The assailant was neutralized by the soldiers in the area," it added. Israel frequently uses the term "neutralize" to describe the killing of Palestinians suspected of attacks.
No Israeli injuries were reported.
The violence was the latest in simmering tensions in the West Bank, stoked by daily Israeli raids that have been carried out since March 2022 and now the establishment of an ultranationalist government.
Since early January 2023, tensions between Israel and the Palestinians have been flaring. Around 17 Palestinians have been killed and dozens injured by Israeli soldiers since Jan. 1, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
