JERUSALEM, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Euroleague basketball game between Greek champions Panathinaikos B.C. and Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv, scheduled for Friday evening in Athens, has been suspended due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Israeli team.
Maccabi on Thursday said in a statement that the 21st-round game had been postponed by the Euroleague after more players tested positive for the virus, in addition to players infected last week.
Maccabi noted that the team's training scheduled for Thursday was canceled due to the infections.
At the same time, the Euroleague said in a statement that "Maccabi requested the suspension after several team members tested positive for COVID-19, which leaves the team without the minimum eight players on the Authorization List fit to play".
This is the third consecutive game of the Israeli team that was postponed due to the pandemic, and the Euroleague has not yet set the new dates for these games.
